Henson’s Creature Shop closes doors in London

The Jim Henson Company has announced that it’s shutting the London studio of its Creature Shop visual-effects and animatronics business, with the loss of more than 20 jobs. The offices in Los Angeles and New York will remain, and Henson says it will hire freelance crews in London for projects as they arise. Behind the pull-out is an unfavourable exchange rate and the absence of concrete tax incentives, according to Henson president and CEO, Peter Schube.

Recently, the Creature Shop has provided characters and effects for the Five Children and It film, starring Eddie Izzard, and the Farscape: Peacekeeper Wars (pictured above) sci-fi TV show.
